7 Date Night Ideas for Baby Boomers
Dating your spouse is something I believe everyone should try to do. Even after you have been married for 40 years, dating each other will keep that spark alive and remind you of the good old days. Back to when you were young and without a care in the world, running around town just enjoying each other’s company on date night.
As we age, dating can become obsolete because you realize you might not be able to go out and do all the things you used to do when you went on a date. However, I have come up with multiple date night ideas that baby boomers can enjoy with their significant other.
Along with the date ideas, I have provided an estimated price of how much the date might cost. That way you can compare date prices to what you’d like to spend.
1) Drive-In Movie
If you really want to kick it old school and riminess those high school days, go see a movie at the drive-in. The amount of drive-in movie theaters has definitely dwindled over the years, but I bet you can still find one somewhat close to you.
There are even some drive-in theaters that will have a retro film night where they show the best classic films.
Maybe you are a more energetic couple and would rather have an active date night. A putt-putt date night would be perfect for baby boomers who have a more competitive edge. The great thing about going to play putt-putt in the evening and night time, is that you get to also enjoy a night out under the stars. This is a great date night idea for the couples that used to love playing golf together but can no longer endure the stress that the game puts on your body.
3) BYOP: Build Your Own Pizza
Staying in can count as a date too if you have the right activities to treat it as one. One thing you could do is go to a nearby grocery store and grab two pizza crusts along with your all time favorite toppings. Take everything back to the house and spend the evening making your own pizza together. Once your pizzas are out of the oven, you can eat them while you play your favorite board game together.
You can get creative and get non-traditional pizza toppings like M&M’s and sprinkles and turn your pizza into a desert. Or even pick out your spouse’s favorite things and make each other’s pizzas. See who can come up with the best homemade pizza!
4) Carnival Game Night
There are many traveling carnivals still around today. Carnivals were always a fun place to both hang out with a group of friends and enjoy a first date. Bring back those butterflies that dates used to cause by playing some carnival games.
There’s nothing quite like winning a giant teddy bear for your sweetheart to remember the old days. Also, bring a trash bag for all your winnings if you plan on being the champion at the carnival.
5) Visit a Jazz Lounge
Even though jazz was most popular during the 1920s, you can almost always find a jazz lounge nearby. Going to a jazz lounge and listening to some great music can be a peaceful but fun evening. Sip on your favorite beverage while just simply talking with each other.
6) Traditional Dinner Date
One of the most popular types of date, is the traditional dinner date. One of my favorite ways of having a dinner date is getting all dressed up and going somewhere you normally don’t go. You can enjoy a night out on the town while waiting for your dinner reservations at the most renowned restaurant in your area.
For this date, you might even want to venture out a little further than your home town. Make it a special evening by getting back to the basics all while adding a little extra to the idea of a dinner date.
7) Go See a Show
This date idea can even be tied into date idea number six. After you are done with dinner, surprise your loved one with tickets to see a show. Broadway shows are constantly traveling throughout the states and seeing at least one should be on everyone’s bucket list.
If you like the idea of seeing a show or play but aren’t looking to pay too much, check to see if your local theater has any shows playing. Seeing a local play is a fun excuse to leave the house without having to travel to far.
Dating Your Spouse
Being able to date your spouse is a great way of continuing to stay active. You married each other so that you could grow old together but just because you have aged doesn’t mean you have to stop doing all the things you used to love doing together.
